The single My Name Is samples the songs I Got The by Labi Siffre and I Don't Love You by Millie Jackson. Seven tracks on the album contain elements of songs by other artists. The bonus track Get You Mad was produced by Sway and King Tech. The background music for the Skits Lounge, Ken Kaniff and Soap comes from Jeff Bass. Dre only produced the pieces My Name Is, Guilty Conscience (in collaboration with Eminem) and Role Model (in collaboration with Mel-Man ), he was always highlighted in public as executive producer, since Dres Name in contrast to the comparatively unknown Bass Brothers was much more effective in the media. They produced the beat for Rock Bottom as well as with Eminem as co-producer Brain Damage, If I Had, '97 Bonnie & Clyde, My Fault, Cum on Everybody, Just Don't Give a Fuck, As the World Turns, I'm Shady, Bad Meets Evil and Still Don't Give a Fuck. The Bass Brothers, who had worked with him even before Eminem's discovery, are primarily responsible for the production. The songs If I Had, '97 Bonnie & Clyde ( Just the Two of Us ) and Just Don't Give a Fuck were already released on the Slim Shady EP and partly with a different beat ( Just Don't Give a Fuck ) or other title ( '97 Bonnie & Clyde ) taken over on The Slim Shady LP. The bonus tracks Hazardous Youth and Greg are a cappella freestyles. In addition to these songs, there are also serious songs that deal with Eminem's poverty and the problems associated with it ( If I Had, Rock Bottom ). In Bad Meets Evil, Eminem and Royce da 5'9 ″ take on the role of two bandits.
A typical party song can also be found on the LP ( Cum on Everybody ), as well as songs about drugs ( My Fault, I'm Shady ). Role Model is an ironic song in which Eminem pulls his role model function as a now famous rapper through the cocoa.

On The Slim Shady LP, Eminem slips into the role of his alter ego Slim Shady more often than on later releases, in order to devote himself to controversial topics such as violence, drugs or sex in mostly highly exaggerated ironic ways. The album, like all of Eminem's following albums, is characterized by his typical style. Several songs on the album were taken over from the Slim Shady EP. For much of the admission process, Eminem was under the influence of ecstasy. The single My Name Is was recorded on the first day of recording. Eminem signed a recording deal with Aftermath Entertainment and production of The Slim Shady LP began immediately. After hearing it, Dre was convinced of the rapper's talent and decided to work with Eminem.
Dre, already an influential hip-hop producer at the time, was leaked to Eminem's demo tape through Jimmy Iovine. After his neglected first album Infinite, he released the Slim Shady EP in 1997, which earned him some good reviews, on the underground label Web Entertainment owned by the Bass Brothers. Eminem was a relatively unsuccessful and only locally known rapper in the mid-1990s.
